The President instructed to develop a program for the construction of “traffic-lightless overpasses”

The President of Uzbekistan instructed to develop proposals to reduce the number of road accidents and include in them a three-year program for the construction of “traffic-light-free overpasses” on roads where traffic jams and accidents occur.

At a meeting on September 12, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev ordered the development of a draft resolution providing for measures to reduce the number of road accidents. This was reported by the Uzbekistan 24 TV channel.

The head of state set this task to the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs - Head of the Department of Public Security Bekmurod Abdullaev, Head of the Road Safety Service of the Department of Internal Affairs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Olim Saidov and acting. O. Chairman of the Committee on Highways under the Ministry of Transport Zhamshid Tursunov together with regional khokims.

“Within a month, study all traffic lights and road signs that restrict traffic and develop proposals to reduce the number of situations related to accidents,” the president said.

He instructed to include in the draft document a three-year program for the construction of “traffic-lightless overpasses” on roads where traffic jams often form and accidents occur. This program should be developed with the involvement of foreign experts.

It was noted at the meeting that thanks to the installation of more than 2,500 cameras and radars on the roads, as well as the reduction of the permitted speed of transport in cities from 70 to 60 km/h, the number of accidents in places where there are cameras has decreased by 30%. With this in mind, the President emphasized the need to continue the implementation of smart intersection and smart traffic light systems on a larger scale.

Bekmurod Abdullaev in an interview with the TV channel said that, according to the analysis, non-compliance of the road infrastructure with the requirements causes 48% of all accidents.

Speaking about the results of the meeting, he said that in the administrative centers of the regions, in order to reduce congestion, it is planned to introduce a system of “smart traffic lights”, and overpasses will be built at the busiest intersections.
